What is Kidney transplant?

A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure to place a healthy kidney from a living or deceased donor into a person whose kidneys no longer function properly.

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located on each side of the spine just below the rib cage. Each is about the size of a fist. Their main function is to filter and remove waste, minerals and fluid from the blood by producing urine.

Going through kidney transplant is no doubt, without a question a very personal experience – physically, emotionally and intellectually. You have to be strong in all these three department to make this surgery a successful one.

Who donates a kidney?

There may either a living donor or a deceased donor.

LIVING DONOR

A human body can function in a perfectly healthy way with one healthy kidney, hence a family member may step up to donate his/her kidney.

Furthermore the blood and tissues must match between the patient and the donor.

Getting a kidney from your loved one is the best option as it kills the waiting time for getting a deceased donor’s kidney and also increases the chances of acceptance of the kidney by the body after the transplant manifold.

DECEASED DONOR

These are the donor who have died unnatural deaths like accident rather than natural death and has or his family member has chosen to donate his organ. Either the deceased person or family members have opted to donate the organs.

The risk of rejection of the kidney is more is this case as the donor is not related. However, if your family member are unable to donate their kidneys then this alternative is way better.

Matching process

Patient as well as the donor’s blood group and human leukocyte antigen are tested and matched. If all matches then the chances of your body rejecting the kidney lowers. Further test are performed to ensure that the new organ is not attacked by the immune system of the patient. If the antibodies does not affected the new organ then the transplant could proceed further.

In the surgery the surgeon cut opens your abdomen, surgical implants the kidney by joining the arteries and veins to the kidneys.

After the surgery you will be kept under for close monitoring of your vitals. You may feel severe pain at the surgical site and will have to stay admitted in the hospital for the next few days. The kidney could take up to several days or few hours to start working. You will be kept under medicine and will be liable for regular follow ups in the future for monitoring the conditions of the kidney.

We want to re-establish the dwindling lack of trust between the doctors and patients with our honest second opinion.

03. No financial expectation bias !

For your second opinion, We choose surgeons who practice in a city away from your place, so they won’t have any expectation that you would be coming to them for surgery – so no bias of financial expectation

04. We are not a Hospital !

Lot of Hospitals give second opinion. Their opinion cannot be unbiased as they would definitely be benefited if they advise surgery and they would expect you to be coming to them as patients. Whereas we are not a hospital.

05. Surgeons preferred by other doctors !

We choose the surgical panel team very carefully –after taking suggestion from other fellow doctors as to whom they would prefer if someone of their own family requires a surgery.
