Following are the different types of plastic surgeries:

  • Facelift

    • In scientific term it is known as Rhytidectomy, where facial fats are removed, facial skin and muscles are stretched or tightened to give the desired look. Surgeon will extract the skin exposing the muscle and fat to be operated. Excess fat will be removed and the skin will be placed back to its place. A person whose skin is sagging but has elasticity left is the best fit for the surgery.

    • Short term numbness of the skin is generally observed in patients. Also, the patient may feel pain and discomfort after the surgery. The surgery usually lasts for several hours and can even take longer to be completed when other procedures are performed.   • Ear Pinning

    • This surgery is opted by people who are dissatisfied with their large or wide ears. The scientific term for this procedure is Otoplasty. The ears are brought closer to the skull or reduce the size. Other defects that are rectified by this surgery are shell ears where the folds in the ear are absent, building of new ear for those who lost in injury or by-birth, ear lobe correction, increasing the size of ear. Ear pinning is more common between children up to age 15, followed by adults.

  • Nose reshaping

    • Nasal surgery is performed to eliminate the obstructing in airflow or any other discomfort due to the nasal structure. Usually the doctors examine the nose and try to eliminate the obstruction through sprays, injection or oral medication. Generally, allergies causes the obstruction in passage of air via nose, hence doctors try to resolve allergies first, if the problem persists then surgery comes in picture. Surgeries include Septoplasty where the nasal septum is surgically straightened to open up the nostrils, Rhinoplasty where the structure of the nose is changed to eliminate the abnormalities in the structure and turbinate reduction to enhance the inflow of air.

Short Term Side Effects of Surgery

    • Swollen face, eyes, aching nose, mild headache and somethimes bleeding are normal short term side effects of the surgery. Doctor will advise a time period during which you have to restrict your physical activity to minimal. Recovery may take several weeks. In open surgical techniques scars may be located at the nose, although not noticeable.
  • Cleft lip

    • Cleft lip is an abnormal feature of lip right from the birth. It is common among Asian and 1 in 600 births are affected by this irregularity.

      It occurs when the fetus fails to join the upper lips together leaving an opening sometimes extending up to the nose trills during its developing stage inside the womb. It is common among boys. Also, point to be noted that people with cleft lip are otherwise healthy and no other irregularity or disability persists.

      It may be stressful for the parents to adjust to the very noticeable cleft lip. There are different kind of cleft lip as shown in pictures above.

      Causes of this condition are unclear. Some part of causes are attributed to the genes inherited from parents and the rest is still not completely understood by the scientists. Short Term Side Effects of Surgery

    • Short term difficulty in taking food, depending upon the age of the patient you can give them liquid diet. Breast milk is allowed for the infant. Care must be taken to protect the stitches after the surgery.
  • Craniosynostosis

    • In some cases the skull of the baby tends to take up an odd shape while growing up. This can put pressure on the brain and such conditions are known as craniostenosis. Initially the brain is covered by a thin fibrous material called sutures.

      Sutures allows the brain to grow in size and then hardens at a later stage sticking the skull bones together. In most of the cases the brain develops properly but the shape of the skull gets distorted. There are very rare cases where brain gets subjected to pressure due to shape irregularity restricting growth of the brain. Abnormal shape of skull at the time of birth or some weeks later is the only early symptom. The causes of this condition are not known but it is attributed to genetics. If you observe abnormal shape of your baby’s skull then it is not always a case of craniosynostosis. Suggest your doctor or surgery second opinion to get a clear picture.

    • You can avoid any complication by completing the surgery as early as possible. Doctor may suggest to wait and see if the shape returns to normal naturally. But would eventually end with a surgery if the correction doesn’t takes place. Fever, Headache, irritability near the stitches are some side effects.
